River of Light : Explanation

I would like to begin by recalling the timeless words of my guru: “അവനവൻ ആത്മ സുഖത്തിനായി ആചരിക്കുന്നവ അപരന്ന് സുഖത്തിനായി വരേണം", which means, whatever one does for one’s own satisfaction, should also, at the very least, serve the needs or happiness of others.” This thought is the moral foundation on which the above quote rests.
In our times, life is often measured by how brightly someone shines: by fame, recognition, or physical wealth. Yet, not everyone is meant to stand in the spotlight. It reminds me that true value can be found not only in those who shine at the forefront, but also with those who quietly carry the light forward, ensuring it never fades.
“Light” represents pure talent, knowledge, and the power to create change. Some people are born with the ability or opportunity to radiate this light directly into the world. Others may find themselves in positions where their own light is dimmed by circumstances, limitations, or time. But that doesn’t mean their contribution ends there. A River may not be light, but it carries light beautifully as the glow reflects and flows through its waters. Similarly, we can carry and direct the glow of others to a destination that benefits all.
To be a river means to become a path for ideas, dreams, and talents to move forward. To empower others, even when we cannot fulfil that role directly. It is a mindset rooted in the ultimate truth that the success of one is the success of many.
Life works differently for different people. It does not always align perfectly with our own aspirations. I believe that everyone has dreams that they cannot achieve due to personal challenges and adversities beyond our control. This can lead to disappointment or envy when we see others achieve what we cannot. But I urge you all to rise above that instinct. Instead of letting disappointment close our hearts, we can choose to use our energy to lift up others who are capable of leaning forward.
The beauty of this approach can be seen in our own surroundings. Every river shapes the landscape without claiming the glory of the sunlight it reflects. Similarly, we can also make a lasting impact without being a direct source of light. The ripples we create through support, guidance, encouragement, and generosity can have a greater impact than we can imagine for ourselves.
Life is not just about personal success; it is about contributing to something greater than ourselves. I believe that life is precious and should be lived responsibly, with kindness, and with a sense of purpose. Life works differently for each person, and everyone has the right to choose their own path. What matters most is that our actions provide a sense of purpose, benefit and unite everyone, and leave everything better than we found it.
